I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and attended the University of Louisville School of Medicine, which is why I bleed red. My surgical training began in Boston, MA, where I interned at Boston University and was selected for the Boston City Hospital orthopedic junior trauma fellowship. I completed my formal orthopedic residency in New York City at the Beth Israel/Kingsbrook Jewish combined program.
Fellowship is where very specialized training occurs. My fellowship was at the Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center, where I trained with Drs. Larry Field, Gene Barrett, Walter Shelton, and FH ‘Buddy’ Savoie, all world leaders in arthroscopic shoulder, elbow, and knee surgery. Dr. Savoie, certainly one of the most gifted arthroscopists in the arena, strived to teach the art as well as the craft of shoulder surgery.
From the deep South to the Northwest, my family and I moved to Yakima, WA, where we spent two years. For the past 21 years, I have practiced in Ogden, UT. In August 2023, we moved to the Denver area to join the extremely talented and thriving Dr. John Xenos.
Over the years, I’ve published widely and lectured at national meetings. My most rewarding experience has been with the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), where I’ve taught many courses on orthopedic injuries. As an AANA Master Shoulder Instructor, I teach advanced arthroscopic shoulder surgery techniques in Chicago. In 2017, I received the Stephen Snyder Excellence in Teaching Award.
My research focuses on post-operative pain reduction, exploring the use of electronic devices to alleviate pain in surgery patients.
My practice, mainly sports medicine, emphasizes arthroscopic treatment of shoulder, elbow, and knee injuries. I regularly perform Total and Reverse Total Shoulder Replacements. I’m thrilled to offer top-tier care with Dr. Xenos at our new Colorado Orthopaedics office.
